I have the perfect event to put on your calendar for this weekend and next — Southern Living’s Home for the Holidays Showcase. This annual event offers all kinds of great ideas for your home this season including cooking demos from hot H-Town chefs, how-to flower arranging for holiday parties, and yours truly will be hosting a chocolate and champagne pairing session — two of my favorite things!

The 4341-square foot showcase home is decorated for the holidays and is located at 2718 Talbott in West University Place. In addition to getting some great decorating and remodeling ideas (or even the itch to buy a new house), you’ll also have the opportunity to score some awesome party ideas for the holidays.

Saturday, Nov. 1 at 1 p.m., Michael Savino from Michael’s Cookie Jar will show you how to craft the cutest holiday cookies. And, you’ll get a taste or two as well. Michael shares his recipe for the cookies right here on Goodtaste.tv, http://goodtaste.tv/recipes/show recipe/display/michaels-cookie-jar-classic-shortbread and on Saturday he’ll share some expert tips on how to decorate like a pro, including the best kitchen gadgets and tools to use.

At 3 p.m., I’ll host a chocolate and sparkling wine pairing where we’ll explore which chocolates pair best with which bubblies. You’ll also get a chance to sign up for our Goodtaste Getaway to New York City. http://goodtaste.tv/giveaways/win-a-trip-to-fabulous-new-york-city/

You can see the entire schedule for both weekends right here http://www.stoneacorn.com. And by all means, keep an eye out for Sunday, Nov. 9’s line up which includes Brennan’s Houston Chef Danny Trace who will be demonstrating how to prepare a savory Matagorda Bay Oyster Stew. http://goodtaste.tv/recipes/show recipe/display/brennans-matagorda-bay-oyster-stew Wonder if he’ll have some of those tasty pralines nearby! Also on Sunday, Nov. 9, Elaine Ousley with Elaine’s Florist will share some incredible ideas for holiday centerpieces — your table will be the star of any event!

Admission is $10, and one of the great things about this event, sponsored by Stone Acorn Builders LP, is that 100 percent of the proceeds benefit Operation FINALLY HOME, a nonprofit that provides mortgage-free homes for wounded and disabled veterans … a very worthwhile endeavor indeed! I hope to see you there.
