TOMORROW IS NATIONAL NACHO DAY! HERE’S WHERE TO GET YOUR NACHO ON IN HOUSTON

With the sheer number of Tex-Mex spots in this city, it’s no secret that nachos have become a staple of Houston cuisine. So in honor of National Nacho Day (which we just found out exists and is Friday, November 6), we’ve rounded up some of the more memorable queso-smothered chips in town.
 

Here’s Where to Get Yo’ Nacho on in Houston this holiday:

What you’re getting: BBQ Berkshire Pork Nachos

First up in none other than our 2015 Best of Houston winner for Best Nachos. This food truck turned gourmet taco spot overloads its freshly fried corn chips so that each and every crevice is dripping in house queso. That queso, by the way, is spiced up with daily made fiery salsa, ground chipotle peppers and heavy cream (no wonder it's so heavenly). There's also a generous heap of things like marinated steak, tender pork and seared shrimp before things get really crazy with black beans, fresh corn salsa, pickled jalapeños, and sour cream AND guacamole — because at this point, why the hell not? Get a plate for $10.95 (for steak, chicken, and pork) or $13.95 (for shrimp or crab).

What you’re getting: Viet-Tex-Mex Nachos

This fully loaded plate ($7) is also available in French Fry form, but today, it’s all about the nacho. Piled high with freshly fried tortilla chips, Vietnamese-style chargrilled chicken, pork, or tofu, gooey queso, chopped onion, salsa and pickled jalapeños – this is one guilty pleasure that is worth every single bite.

What you’re getting: Steak Fajita Nachos

This festive and cheap as hell neighborhood haunt does steak nachos a service by layering each chip with silky refried beans, melted cheddar, and charred and tender hunks of marinated fajita beef. The usual suspects – sour cream, guac, and pickled jalapeños – make for friendly companions. The result is comfort Tex-Mex to the max. Get a small order for $7.99 and a large for $10.99. But who are we kidding, you want the large.

These individually stacked stunners come with blankets of with spicy beef, beans, guacamole, melty cheese, diced tomatoes and jalapeños, just like their namesake, an American folksinger and songwriter, always liked. What you’re getting: Ground Beef Nachos

This star-studded collaboration from Tex Mex guru Robb Walsh and celebrity chef Bryan Caswell delivers vintage Tex-Mex that is worth a visit for the chips and salsa alone. But even better is when the deep fried corn tortillas ($11.95) are smothered with seasoned ground beef, melted cheeses, and refried beans made with pure, house-rendered lard. Old school never tasted so good.
