Sarah Grueneberg developed a love for the culinary world as a small child. When her mother had to travel, she would stay with her neighbor who cooked for her husband every evening. Sarah would help her cook every evening and developed a great passion for food and the pleasure that her cooking would bring to others. She began cooking at home for her friends and family and she would experiment with new cuisines.
During her fourth grade year at recess, Sarah had started a restaurant called Taste of the World. She had made menus, paper money and coins and would pretend to be a restaurateur and chef, and all the kids would play along with her. From a young age it was easy to see that Sarah was destined to be a part of the culinary world.
In 1999 Sarah started the Art Institute of Houston culinary program and attained her associates degree in culinary arts by 2001. In July 2001, Sarah joined Brennan’s of Houston working in Garde Manger and was also taught charcuterie by Chef Randy Evans. By 2002 Sarah moved up to line cook and assisted the Sous Chef with weekly specials.
Sarah’s eagerness to learn and willingness to go the extra mile, earned her the title of Sous Chef by November of 2003. This title came with an even larger honor, in that Sarah is the youngest Sous Chef in Brennan’s history at the young age of 22.
Sarah teaches cooking classes at The Cooking Depot in Cuero, Texas, close to where her family lives. She also be found here in Houston, teaching classes at Sur La Table. Back to Chefs Page
