Wines We Love with Our Food
Domaine Ott Clos Mireille Sémillon/Vermentino, Provence, France 2010 -- $62
Fruity white peach, citrus and tropical fruit nose coupled with a fresh, lively bite of white fruit, garrigue flower and citrus zest notes add complexity to the fresh, elegant finish, leaving an impression of refined sophistication.
Château St. Jean Chardonnay, Alexander Valley, California 2013 -- $56
Notes of wet stones, melons and lemon grass with a steely backbone. The wine possesses surprising minerality, good intensity and represents a Sancerre look-alike for less than half the price.
William Fevre Champs Royaux, Chablis, France 2013 -- $54
“Champs Royaux” has a clean, elegant bouquet of citrus, green apple and delicate floral aromas with beautiful crystal minerality emerging on the palate. Very slightly oaky finish. Bone-dry and refreshing, this is the ideal partner for oysters.
Copain Hawks Butte Syrah, Yorkville Highlands, California 2009 -- $115
Copain Syrah’s, Hawks Butte undergoes whole cluster fermentation. Profoundly aromatic, with copious fruit which complements the prevalent herbal and savory undertones. Its rich and remarkably broad palate belies its light weight and soft, velvet texture.
Herman Story Nuts and Bolts, Santa Barbara County 2012 -- $110
Opaque ruby. Impressively concentrated but also shockingly elegant. Displaying a complex mix of dark berry and Asian spice, with wild berry and blackberry, pepper and cedar. Soft tannins add structure to an impressively long, sweet finish. This wine manages to be so rich and obviously ripe while maintaining balance and finesse.
Renwood Grandpère Zinfandel, Amador County, Sierra Foothills, CA 2010 -- $62
Aromas are a blend of fresh raspberries, strawberries and cherries, kerneled spice with sunbaked earth, cigar box and mahogany. Full-bodied nature with supple yet firm tannin structure. A rich mix of black currant, cedar, exotic spices, tobacco, plum and cherry pie.
A Tribute to Grace Wine Company Grenache, Santa Barbara County 2012
Incredibly light, both in color and palate. Restrained, elegant, very pretty wine. Primarily fruit dominant, lovely raspberry and strawberries, but some nice herbal and spice components as well. Tannins come through on the very back end to nicely round out the finish.
