Though it's a common brunch drink in New Orleans, you don't have to wait for a midday meal to sip milk punch in Houston. Check out five spots where you can find amazing renditions of the creamy cocktail.

Arnaldo Richards' Picos

This Mexican spot serves up a cool play on the centuries-old drink. The Ponche de Leche (pictured above, $11) is a mix of horchata, cinnamon whiskey, agave and whipped cream. Sprinkles of freshly grated cinnamon add the finishing touch.

Lillo and Ella

In keeping with its Pan-Asian repertoire, the casual Shady Acres restaurant infuses its milk punch ($7) with Chinese five-spice mix, Japanese whiskey, absinthe and half-and-half.

The cold Cider and Milk Punch ($9) is a hot item at the Washington Avenue cocktail bar. A rich and savory punch made from rye whiskey and milk is brightened up with an unexpected apple cider twist.

Brennan's of Houston

It's no secret the off-the-menu Brandy Milk Punch ($9) is a can't-miss drink at the upscale Midtown staple, which came to Houston by way of NOLA. The always-available sipper is a tasty blend of brandy, vanilla, whole milk and a garnish of freshly grated nutmeg.

The list of expertly crafted cocktails at the Montrose-area bar includes a Milk Punch ($10) that combines bourbon, cognac, whole milk and turbinado (brown sugar) syrup.
